Some love stories feel like they were written in the stars. We grew up in the same town, just a year apart, attending different schools, yet somehow our paths never crossed. A year before we met, Matt had sent Izzie a message on a dating app, then a year later they reconnected on another dating app. It was perfectly timed, as if the universe had been quietly arranging everything.
Two weeks later, on 18.11.2022, we had our very first date. We met at the wonderfully questionable Babington Arms before heading to mini golf, Izzie (accidentally!) walked straight past Matt at the door to get a table because she was so nervous. From the moment we met, the world seemed to slow down. We laughed, talked, and shared dreams without even realising it. Matt told Izzie that one day he’d take her to Disney World, which he lived up to two years later, ‘a dream is a wish your heart makes’ after all.
During our first date, a kind stranger bought us Jägerbombs because he thought we looked like we were ‘meant to be’. Neither of us wanted the evening to end, we stayed out until 2am until the clubs closed, and the next day we were already at bottomless brunch with Matt’s friends.
A month later, Steve (Izzie’s cat) moved into Matt’s house to make sure everything was up to standard and after our first Christmas together, Izzie moved in too. Since then, the longest we’ve been apart is two days. The past three years have been the best of their lives, they’ve grown together, laughed together, survived their twenties together and stepped into their thirties as a team. Supporting each other each step of the way, laughing and growing as people together whilst becoming each other’s safe place and favourite person.
Last September, a week before Izzie’s birthday, Matt proposed. She said yes instantly, even though (embarrassingly and confusingly for Matt) she cried the whole drive home because he hadn’t prepared a dramatic, Hollywood movie-style speech she’d heard for years in films and reality TV. But Matt remembered the most important words of all; ’Will you marry me?’ and that was everything.
Today, our family—our Ohana—is made up of three wonderful cats, endless laughter, and countless shared memories. We’re building a life together, and the future feels brighter than ever. We cannot wait for our wedding day and for all the moments that will follow, continuing our very own happily ever after.
